A New Destination Station for Leeds
The White Rose Station, planned to open in 2024, will be a destination station that also connects local communities. It represents significant transport investment in south Leeds and the construction will give better opportunities for people to access jobs at the White Rose Park, White Rose Shopping Centre and Millshaw Industrial Estate.
The proposed new station at White Rose would be located on the northwest boundary of the Millshaw Park Industrial Estate between Churwell viaduct to the north and Walkers Bridge to the south. This lies on the Leeds to Dewsbury section of the main Trans-Pennine railway line in south Leeds.
Development of a suitable train services timetable on this route will be a continuous process throughout the development of this project. The current intention is to achieve a two trains per hour service pattern at this location. It will optimise connections for local residents who wish to access Leeds City Centre and beyond as well as workers and visitors to the White Rose Shopping Centre, the White Rose Park, Millshaw Industrial Estate and the Elliot Hudson College.
The station forms part of an improved city transport system and is part of a wider transport investment and regeneration programme, the Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme. We will be doing detailed work to understand the potential implications of this development for Cottingley station, because it is unlikely that two stations that are so close together can be fully sustained. Following this assessment we will undertake substantial consultation with local people to understand their needs and develop a scheme that best meets their requirements.
We will also explore a range of options to ensure people in Cottingley and neighbouring areas have the access they need to the rail network and other transport links, including the potential for an on-demand bus service for the community.
The scheme will incorporate new footpaths and cycleways, to ensure easy access to the rail station from nearby communities and will be served by bus and vehicle drop off and pick up points. The buildings themselves will utilise sustainable construction methods and building operation and will be accessible to all users, and fully compliant with Equality Act.
